Rooms and areas

Draw rooms, name them and read their areas.

A room is the space inside walls. RoomPlanning recognises it and works out its area.

Try it in the editor

Draw rooms

The room tool R draws walls and room in one go. On the right you choose the shape:

  • Rectangle: drag from corner to corner, or type a size like 400x300 and press Enter.
  • L shape for rooms with a bend.
  • Polygon: click corner by corner.
  • Round for round rooms such as a bay.

When a new room borders an existing one, both share the same wall.

Name rooms and read areas

Select a room with V. On the right you give it a name and see:

  • Net area: the area inside the walls.
  • Gross area: measured to the wall axis.

If you need an area by a particular rule, set it yourself under Set area by hand.

The Rooms panel lists every room of the storey with its area and the total.

Floors and height

  • Under Floor height you raise or lower a room against the rest of the storey, for a step for example.
  • Choose the floor covering with the material and colour tool P: pick a covering and click into the room.
