Planning circuits

Step by step on a nursery: place sockets and switches, add circuits, draw wires and print the electrical plan.

In the electrical plan you decide where sockets, switches and lights go and which of them share a circuit. This guide shows it on the Nursery group room template: you plan the sockets and the lighting of the group room. It takes about five minutes.

Open the template in the editor

1. Open the template

Open the Nursery group room template. Without an account your plan stays in this browser; with a free account it is ready on every device.

The editor with the floor plan of the nursery: cloakroom, washroom, group room, nap room, side room and store, with the garden all around.

2. Choose the Electrical tool

The tool sits at the very bottom of the left toolbar under Electrical. Scroll the toolbar down or simply press E.

The left toolbar scrolled down. At the very bottom is the Electrical entry.
  1. Electrical, or press E

3. Pick a symbol

Clicking Electrical opens the electrical symbols: sockets, switches, ceiling outlets, network sockets, smoke detectors, radiators and more. Type a name at the top, such as “socket”, and click the symbol.

  2. Click the symbol

4. Place symbols on the walls

Click in the plan where the socket goes. Hold Shift while you click and the symbol stays in your hand, so you can place several in a row. On walls, symbols turn to face the room by themselves. Esc stops placing.

5. Add a circuit and draw the wire

Choose Electrical again (E) and click New circuit on the right. Under Circuits you give it a name, here “Sockets”. Then click from symbol to symbol in the plan; a click in between adds a corner. A double click or Enter ends the wire. Every symbol it touches now belongs to this circuit.

On the right the New circuit button and the name Sockets. In the plan a red wire runs along the walls through all four sockets.

  2. Name of the circuit
  3. Wire from symbol to symbol

6. A second circuit for the lights

Place a light switch next to the door and two ceiling outlets above the tables in the same way. Add a new circuit “Lights” and draw the wire from the switch to the lights. Each circuit gets its own colour. Under Circuits on the right you see how many symbols each one has.

Two circuits: lights in blue from the switch to two ceiling outlets, sockets in red. On the right the list of circuits.
  1. All circuits with their colour
  2. Ceiling outlets on the lights circuit

7. Print the electrical plan

Print electrical plan puts the plan on a sheet of its own: only walls, rooms, symbols and wires, with the legend listing each circuit, the number of its symbols and the length of its wires.

On the right the Print electrical plan button.

Good to know

  • A symbol that no wire touches belongs to no circuit.
  • Clicking a wire selects it. On the right you then change which circuit it belongs to.
  • The electrical plan belongs to the storey you are on. For another floor, switch storeys and carry on there.
